Selling your home during the holidays can bring its set of challenges. However, potential buyers often enjoy picturing themselves in a warm, cozy home for the holidays. We’ve got some tips for staging your home this holiday season!
Organize and Clean first
Before you start pulling out all of your holiday decor, you’ll want to go through your house and organize. This is a good time to start packing. Box up your seasonal things from summer, fall and spring. Declutter each room, and decide what you can box up and put in storage before your move.
Choose Decorations Wisely
You want your home to be cozy and homey for you and your family, while at the same time being attractive to new buyers. Too much can overwhelm potential buyers and make your space look smaller than it is. Add little touches of the holiday spirit throughout your home. A couple of red and green dish towels in the kitchen is great, but maybe skip the Santa toilet seat cover this year.
It gets darker earlier in the winter. Add some holiday lights or call a service provider to help with installation. This is an area not to go overboard. Skip the inflatable reindeer and the giant candy canes lining the sidewalk. A simple house outline or a few strands of lights highlighting a porch is enough to make your home look festive and bright.
There’s no better time of year to pick out some great holiday scents. You don’t even have to bake or light candles! Scented pine cones in glass hurricane lamps, chopped wood by the fire and of course, a real Christmas tree, will already have your home smelling merry and bright.
Make it Cozy
Adding a few subtle touches like a bowl of pinecones, a wreath on the door, a soft red throw blanket and a pot of cider simmering on the stove will create a warm and welcoming feeling in your home.
